Just got my CDL yesterday, which I’m stoked about. So now I’m in the market for jobs.
Talked with someone at Knight at the recommendation of a fellow student, and asked a bunch of questions. Sounds like pay isn’t amazing (told me 48 cpm to start though you get raises once you reach 30k and 60k miles,) but they have a lot of comfort perks. Flexible with home time, nice new trucks, no strict policy on idling the trucks, living at the terminal sounds pretty nice, allows pets. Those last two are big for me because I want to take my two baby tarantulas with me if I can and I won’t have an apartment or friends/family to reliably stay with.
Tbh I don’t mind making a tad bit less to start in exchange for a bit more luxury considering year 1 is just for the experience no matter where you go. My instructor told me to not just jump at one company and shop around since there are a lot of options, but it sounds like a good gig to just dive in on tbh especially since I wanna start soon.
So is Knight a good choice, or is there a reason to go elsewhere or look more? I’m asking y’all reall truckers here because I know you never get the full picture from talking to recruiting even if you ask a lot of specific questions as I did.
*Also for more context of what might be available to me, I’m looking to do OTR/Regional driving and I have an auto restriction.
