How is the freight? IS there really a freight shortage?

I plan on purchasing a truck soon getting my MC to start my own business and run my own freight. Ive been planing this for about a year now and I’m at a point where I feel comfortable enough to take the dive. But I have been reading news of freight shortages and other alarming stories. I work for a big trucking company brokerage division but I haven’t noticed a drop in brokered freight (Which is what I’m concerned with). We did lose some big customers on our Asset end but brokerage seems strong. I appreciate any advise anyone has to offer.
