I work for a flooring company; we install the floors, but we also sell the materials. Lately, we have been managing higher and higher volumes of materials, so we are in the process of expanding to get a proper delivery facility so mills and delivery companies don’t have to deal directly with customers that don’t have the conditions to receive a pallet.
At this moment, we receive the deliveries on the sidewalk, and we have to break them up, load them by hand to a smaller truck and bring it to the customer.
My boss is now thinking about getting a truck ourselves and having the delivery trucks move the load from truck to truck.
I don’t feel comfortable with the idea; I think most delivery drivers would be annoyed by having to align their trucks to ours in the middle of the street(we don’t have a parking lot). I also think we may be stretching the designed capabilities of the truck.
I think the best thing to do would be to get at least a large garage where we could park a forklift and park our truck.
I wanted to have some thoughts from you; maybe I am the one who wants to make things too complicated.
