This is gonna be a half genuine question, and half “am I the asshole?”
So I’m a truck driver who was leaving work in my personal vehicle when I realized I was low on air and needed to make a quick stop. Normally I’m not gonna get in the way of a fellow driver, but this fuel truck was blocking the air pump, however the air hose was more than long enough to span the grass median and allow me to fill the one tire that was low.
For additional context: the car pumps were equally close to the tanker as the air pump.
The air pump was beyond the cones he had set out.
The smell of fuel was no stronger than you’d expect when gassing your own car.
I asked the driver, just to be nice, if he would be long and he said “yeah I just got here.” So I told him no problem, I can stretch the hose to my car. He didn’t say anything until I hit the button on the air machine and then he freaked out and told me to turn it off, the whole place was gonna explode! Of course you can’t turn off those machines once they start so I proceeded to fill my tire anyway. When I finished he told me “hope it was worth risking everyone’s life.”
I couldn’t help myself in my exhausted state but to reply that if it was so dangerous to run an air pump by his truck he shouldn’t be fueling during the morning rush hour. In hindsight I do feel bad for being a smartass, but was there any logic in his concern? I feel like an idling car or even the truck itself could turn the tank into a bomb if that’s the case.
