HOS question

My SO is a new trucker and we have a quick question. He is picking up a load to haul regionally tomorrow morning. Tonight he went to pick up the trailer (he bobtails home) then make his way to a truck stop by the distributor. He got a bit of a late start tonight and is on the way there. He is scheduled to pick up the trailer at 0730 CST. He will have a total of maybe 3-4 hours of drive time tonight and will be parked and done for the night at around 11pm central time. How will it work since it will only be around an 8 hour off duty time compared to the 10 hour? Thank you I’m advance.
