Background: I am 23 years old, I am a state licensed welder and i have my EPA 608 certification (went to school for welding and hvac) but I am currently working full time (48-65 hours a week) for a large company doing neither of those things that anyone would recognize the name of and at this job I make 33$ an hour which comes out after taxes, benefits, and 401k to be around 1100-1500$ paid weekly.
Lately I have been contemplating buying a diesel dually pickup large enough to hotshot (1 ton or bigger) and my sole reasoning is that I do not want to work for someone else my entire life as well as the other things I could do with it as well (car hauler, equipment hauling, etc) I do have a daily, reliable car that I will keep as well as another truck that I would get rid of should I get the diesel.
In a perfect world I would get the new truck and stay at my job and pay it off in about 2-3 years as I have cheap living costs (apartment) and no other large financial burdens.
My question to those more experienced and with real word experience in this area is this: Would it be a wise investment given my age and means? I love driving and even better when there is a trailer behind. Been doing that my whole life from 10’ to 53’ trailers (all farm hauling)
