I have heard about OTR drivers who spend most of their driving time listenting to audiobooks and read books about complex topics in their spare time. They are either studying for some college/university or simply like the isolation OTR trucking provides them and prefer to investigate their favorite subjects on the road, rather then in some more formal setting (there could be many reasons for this such as love for adventure, inability to cope with complex social relationships and expectations, having views which wouldn’t be tolerated in mainstream academia or combination of these factors).
Have you ever met such people? How realistic is it to have serious intelectual life while being on the road?
