Had my first hiccup as a trucker

So I took a load from NY to CT went there fine on my way back to NY I normally stop at a truck stop 5 miles away from my delivery then boom when im pulling in smoke everywhere , i started to panic a bit cause I thought the trailer was on fire, but it ended up just being the brakes , called my dispatcher said they have somewhere 10 miles away that i can swap the trailers out, when looking at the DVIR for the trailer i dropped the mechanics said the slack adjuster is missing, never heard of that happening before
