A truck that blew by me earlier jackknifed a few miles down the interstate. I was behind another truck and a 4 wheeler when we finally saw it around the corner.
By the time I could see that there was a truck jackknifed across all lanes, the truck in front of me (who was first in line) plowed into the left shoulder snow embankment to avoid it, there was already another truck pulled over on the right shoulder, so I couldn’t use that space. The 4 wheeler (second in line) stopped right in front of me and I had only once place I could go without hitting anybody.
I avoided braking and turning hard but still plowed my front end into the right snow embankment. Took out my front bumper and a headlight. Caltrans hooked to the trailer and pulled me out, and sent me on my way. CHP said no citation and wanted me off the mountain.
I have dashcam footage that explains it all – but I don’t know if it’s worth giving to my company’s insurance (who is requesting it). I was well below the speed limit – but why do I feel like it is going to be used against me?
