I followed the truck route signs leading to my destination until reaching a bridge that read 3.95m in height. I knew it wasn’t going to fit so I found a place to pull over and called my company’s lead dispatcher (the owner’s son) to tell him I needed help making a new route.
He looked me up on the tracker and told me many of the bridges aren’t true to size and it more than likely fits. Another driver in the background (I was on speaker phone) added that he had passed here a week or so ago, everything fits, and not to worry. The lead dispatcher told me to pursue slowly with my hazards on.
Well, it didn’t fit…at all
I avoided the bridge and completed the delivery by driving through multiple no truck areas, tight apartment neighborhood streets, and being extremely cautious.
When I returned to the office the dispatcher (owner’s son) acted completely surprised in the middle of the hallway as if he wasn’t aware of the situation’s details. I was confused why he did it this way, but someone explained to me it’s probably so the blame of damages falls on me and not his guidance.
Since this happening the company has changed me trucks, reduced my hours through the week, and now cancelled my day of work.
I do as I’m told, I’m always on time, I drive incredibly well, and I never stop for personal reasons (eating, bathroom, etc.. I do everything while being loaded / unloaded).
This is my first job since completing my internship. I’ve worked with this company for a few months.
If I’m canned, or my hours are continually reduced should I put this company on my resume as a reference?
Would it be better to say I have no experience aside from my internship?
I have a feeling the company is going to put me out before I qualify for unemployment, I have 3/5ths of the hours needed.
Since this happening, I’ve bought a Garmin Dēzl and have it handy for the next time I’m forced to do an unexpected delivery I’ve never driven.
