I’m a company driver who rolled into a trailer in front of me. I was driving a 2020 Peterbilt 579 and i damaged the grille and crown. Peterbilt charged the company $4200 for the part.
2 things are bothering me.
1) Other drivers admitted to me that they did damage to bumpers, 5th wheels, containers, chassis, fairings.. and got away with it. I admitted it and got charged full price.
2) I found a used piece for roughly $1000 and the head mechanic said that “we don’t do that here” I found out later that the Safety Director was trying to find a used one in good shape.
Anyway, the whole incident soured me on the trucking business in general. The last few weeks i just started to not care about my job. I ended up quitting today and am giving up trucking. Its a shame because i love transportation and logistics ans hoping to start a second career in this business.
