Hey all, been considering a career switch into trucking for a long time after getting real burnt out as a laptop jockey. The problem I’m having is that after a long divorce battle I’ve got a pretty fair custody arrangement that’s roughly week on/week off. But it’s also designed to default back to my ex any time I can’t be there to get them to/from school, etc. My kids are young teenagers, and my relationship/time with them is the most important thing in my life. But my current career is killing me.
Are there driving jobs where I can start building up my skills and experience, but could be done on a part-time basis, ideally week on/week off? Dump trucking? Bus driving? Leasing? Been learning all I can about the industry and preparing to get my CDL, but not sure how to make the career change and also focus on being a dad. May have to wait until they grow up and move out, but hoping you folks might have some suggestions.
