I pulled into the Love’s in Obetz, OH to park after delivering a load a couple of miles away. I found an empty spot and a police cruiser parked in front of the truck next to my target empty spot. I figured it was police responding to one truck backing into another, or something of the sort. I do some paperwork and see EMS show up. Maybe as the officer was filing his report, a driver needed medical attention, was my thought. I went inside to get something to eat. I am in there for a good amount of time and expect to return to my truck with the police gone. Police are still there, but EMS is gone. I go into my sleeper, because I have to get a nap in anticipation of getting my next load. I get my next load, but it doesn’t pick up until the following morning in Trotwood. I decide to vacate that parking spot for another driver who may be needing it in order to park closer to where I will be picking up, which happens to be another Love’s. As I get in the driver’s seat, I see a car parked in front of me but off to the side. After a couple of minutes, I see in the windshield a sign indicating the vehicle is from the county Coroner’s Office.
So, it appears that maybe the driver’s company (won’t mention it here because it’s not necessary), couldn’t get ahold of the driver and called police to check on the driver. In performing the welfare check, the driver was found deceased.
I tried searching for a report of this police activity online and got nothing. God be with this driver’s family and friends.
