Just because the mega carrier school put you on some guy’s truck and told you to respect him, doesn’t mean that guy gets to know your social security number.
Back in the day, at the trucking school, they assigned me to an lease-operator as my trainer for a few thousand miles.
This guy had the audacity to ask me to write my name and social security number in his notebook so he could “log you on duty when it comes time.”
I absolutely refused.
Which created tension, because we were out a couple thousand miles from the terminal.
I called dispatch and asked to be removed from his truck.
They honored my request, eventually, after two trips that got us back to the terminal.
I’m retrospect, I should have grabbed my bag and jumped off his truck when he asked me for that information.
Then it’s a Uber ride, Greyhound bus ride, Uber ride back to your home terminal and hopefully your personal vehicle.
These guys who are “trainers,” a lot of them have about 8 months experience.
A lot of them get off on the idea of being a trainer because it gives them power over vulnerable people.
They’re there for the power trip and to use you as slave labor. Because you will be underpaid while “training.”
The most basic protection is guarding your personal information.
Because there’s no guarantee that this guy isn’t going to turn around and open a credit line in your name, or use your identity for an array of nefarious activities.
Another company put me with a trainer that had two active restraining orders against him and a recent girlfriend who died under mysterious circumstances and was the executor of her will for some reason.
That guy, my “trainer” stole the SIM card out of my phone and started contacting my sister.
I filed two police reports against him and had to warn my entire family that this unstable person may try to contact them.
The trucking company doesn’t care about you or your identity.
You have to protect yourself.
Protect your personal information.
