I got my first job and I learned during school that following the rules and everything is crucial to not getting fined or put out of service. Well, the classroom portion of the schooling was all CDL Class A things even though I was going for Class B. I also learned that you must take a report of your pre-trip every single day to be prepared if you get stopped by DOT.
I got my new job and I forgot to do my pre-trip from how surprised I was that I got the job and got to work immediately (I thought I was going in for an interview but was already hired before the interview), and my boss who was riding shotgun for the first few rides didn’t even make sure I did my pre-trip or anything. Super chill boss not gonna lie but that leaves the responsibility up to me. Which I’m okay with.
I ended up asking if DOT focuses on us more or OTR. He said they have had encounters with them but rarely so to not really worry about it as long as I follow the speed limit and drive safely. Now I don’t want to doubt my boss and not worry about having record on my pre-trip but I did want to get the general public’s opinion on how I should do my job as a beginner trucker.
