How about next “driver appreciation week,” instead of giving us a cold hot dog on a stale bun and a company branded hat that doesn’t fit, give us something that we would REALLY appreciate.
Here’s an idea.
For the entire week:
All office personnel must live in a tractor on the lot. They will not be allowed to go home. They will not be allowed to drive personal vehicles. They must get permission from a driver to bobtail anywhere.
At random times during the night, a member of manglement will knock on the tractor and make them move the tractor. Preferably to an area that is already crammed full of tractors.
Lunch may be taken in their cubicles or in an overpriced restaurant with a minimum of 90% unhealthy menu options. (they may take a 4-wheeler for lunch but must park at least 500 feet from the door.)
Network speeds must be “governed” to no more than 63 kbps. (55 in California.)
Cubicles will be randomly inspected by building code enforcement officers. No work will be allowed while the inspection is underway.
Cameras will be installed in all cubicles to monitor performance. Drivers will be able to monitor cameras in the safety personnel office, without notifying them that they are being watched.
Lavatories will be available for 5 minutes each hour. (you may finish whatever you start, as long as you make it in there while the window is open.) but you may only use a lavatory that requires you to stop working for half an hour to reach it. (better plan carefully!)
To enter the office, employees must sign a statement that they understand the policies, provide (to the single overworked guard) their driver license number and vehicle license plate, describe the contents of their pockets, and the time they are scheduled to start work. The guard will tell them to wait, and will inform them when their cubicle is available.
For no reason whatsoever, local schools will bring troupes of children through the office to wander around and get in the way. The children will be unsupervised for the duration of their tour of the office.
TL;DR: dispatchers and office personnel will get to experience what drivers put up with daily, in terms of living conditions, harassment and job handicaps, diet, availability of services, petty policies, and clueless drivers.
