Was a bit stressed. Not sure if it bad in comparison or not. But right after peak saw some guy who flew over the rails hope he’s ok. It was the mountain pass around Oregon California border. In class they said don’t use engine brakes when it’s wet or icy. The road was wet and temp was 24 so I assumed ice. So I tried to go down starting in 7th trying to stay around 30. But felt like I sped up a little to fast. I was around 67k lbs iirc. I did make it down fine but the experience made me feel uncertain. What if I was heavier would I have made it or not. One other driver was smoking like mad at bottom. Also another thing that worried me near the middle it flattened out a little so I went up a couple gears but then it got steeper but the truck refused to let me downshift even with low rpms no idea why.
Not even sure if the conditions were bad enough to not use engine brakes. So if anyone has some tips for future I’d be thankful.
