LTL
To set this up: I’ve been with this international freight carrier almost 90 days. The training was mostly unsupervised, with web based training; your standard video and checklist. No problem. Seven trainees on six computers without working audio. Every computer, all of them.
Of course, we had no access to fix with the security settings. We had the HR manager have a look but he gave up and we joked and told stories until it was time to go home.
I’m reading lips and graphics in training. Ok, no problem. I’m a go-get-r. I’ve done this job elsewhere. I know all of the equipment. I’ll be ok.
Then I made it to ops. No pallet jacks. Seniority based company, so guess who gets last stab at 40+ pallet jacks, 10am start? There’s a pair of longbox in the yard. A PJ graveyard. I have to begrudgingly ask my customers to use their equipment to do my job.
The last issue: there aren’t enough handhelds. But idgaf about that. The principle of the matter is: I need the tools and training to do my job.
Anyway, after an expression of my feelings about these issues with my supervisor over a phone call, following an attempted 6 pallet attempt, due to, yep you guessed it… The customer had no pj and neither do I.
I kept going though. I’m accustomed to customers solving my dilemmas from my company’s negligence.
Then theres Ann.
I bumped dock 3/4 at my final customer loaded. I check delivery receipt and exit the cab. I’m at the bottom of the steps before a door with a bell when Ann comes out and starts yelling at me: I’m on the wet dock.
There no signage anywhere and I’ve never been at this location. Apparently, another driver of ours was giving her a finger, idk. I stated my cases; never been here, have you have seen me? There’s no signage or I missed it. Asked her to go easy cuz my day is shit already.
I told her truckers don’t read minds. Unless it’s on the highway.
Took the remainder of my load back to base.
Told the sup. I was gong home.
Fuck it.
