Hey, I recently got a new home daily job after a year of OTR and its been like 2 weeks into this new job and it has been going smooth until this last week. I had a what I would consider an unjustified close call, I almost hit another vehicle after running a stop sign.
I was heading to one of my last pick ups of the day and for some reason I still don’t know I ran a stop sign that could’ve been a major if not fatal. A few couple minutes after this incident I get to the pick up location, I called safety and tell them about the incident and right after I go to check in at the office and when I come back to the truck I find the man that I almost hit, he was mad but held all the anger he had and was kind of polite and said that I almost killed him that I had to be more aware, he pretty much said stuff that I agreed on. Then proceeds to ask me for my company’s phone number, usdot, truck number and my name and I had to give to him because yall know that the companies love to print their names in the biggest way possible on the outside of their trucks and it would’ve been just dumb not to give him the information because he could’ve just googled the phone number anyways.
After I am done with the pick ups and get back yo the terminal I have a chat with safety about the incident, I asked him if he got a call, he says “yes” I proceeded say that I apologize, that if Im fired then that I would understand because it is a safety concern, but for my surprise he says im not fired, that i will just be put in a safety course, ride along someone else for a couple of days, he was really comprehensible and said not to let that event get over my head and gave me another chance but the thing is he hasn’t seen the footage of the incident yet(truck’s dashcam), this due to the incident happening on a friday afternoon, so on monday he definitely will see it and I guess we all know he can change his mind about me being fired or not
Im deeply regret and Im not proud of what happened that day I should’ve seen that stop sign and stop. I want to make clear that this is the first time I ever run a stop sign in my life, I wish it would’ve never happened.
This its definitely getting over my head, should I be worried and ready to find a new job non driving related or not
