I just completed 1 month training and I was driving a 2018 Peterbilt 579. The lowbeams on this truck are VERY dim to the point they are dangerous. I can’t see more than 30ft in front of me if I had to guess. When it’s raining/snowing it’s obviously way worse.
My trainer basically said yeah, the lights suck, everyone complains about it, you just have to “get used to it”. I’m not sure how you’re supposed to “get used” to not being able to see at night.
I don’t even understand how they have trucks with these lights out on the streets. I literally have had a single light on my $5000 motorcycle that is 10x better than both headlights combined on a $200k+ 40,000lb truck and I’m not even exaggerating at all. There are other threads about this on truckersreport and every other trainee I’ve mentioned this to has agreed 100% with me that the lowbeams are insanely bad.
I want to have an official documentation that I complained about the lights and maybe even put in a repair order so that it’s officially on record that I can’t see well at night so if I do get in an accident there’s a paper trail saying I told them about the issue. I just spent a month and a half going through this hellish orientation and month of training thinking I was going to get a new truck with better lights, and now I’ve got new information that I’ll probably get an older truck with these unsafe headlights and don’t know what to do.
