I was disqualified during my CDL test in Gainesville GA today. The classmate driving before me successfully completed pre-trip, and went to attempt maneuvers starting off with straight line backing. The examiner told him to not back up all the way past the cones, but to back the rear of the tractor up to the last cone and then stop. I assume this was because backing up fully through the cones would cause him to possibly hit a construction fence behind the DDS. He followed instructions, the examiner said he didn’t. The examiner says “I told you to back up until the rear of your tractor met the rear cones… I MEAN, I said back up all the way through the cones!” My classmate didn’t even bother with protesting this, as the examiner clearly wasn’t going to take accountability for poor directions. I didn’t want to end up in this same position, so I started an audio recording and slipped my phone in my pocket, I mentioned to another classmate that I’d be recording it to avoid being in the same boat, and the person standing by that classmate ratted me out to the DDS. I had made it through my entire pre-trip flawlessly, I was working on air brakes. The DDS manager then disqualified me for recording the test with audio because apparently it’s not within federal regulations or whatever to record the test. I explained my intention but they didn’t care, they’re paid to push paper, not negotiate with testers. Am I in the wrong?
