CDL school through a company or local CDL school

Looking to get my CDL A and have two options. I could use my gi bill to cover 80% and go to a local but would lack experience so I feel my options for jobs would be limited. Going through a CDL school through a company, are you paid while training as long as you sign with them? From what I’ve gathered, it’s at least 1 yr OTR. My girlfriend has reservations about the OTR route but I’ve tried to explain that it’s how you pay your dues. Any advice would be appreciated!
