Do any of you have contracts with driveaway companies that mainly deal with CDL-A work?
I’ve been with Amerifleet (now Acertus) back in 2015-2019, only reason I left them was because I wanted to get my cdl.
Currently 4 years CDL experience. I’m with a local oil company in Georgia, making $25.50 to deliver diesel to construction sites. For the current economy pay just isn’t cutting it, if I wasn’t filing exempt on taxes it would take me a month to pay all of my bills (almost $3k) and that’s all I’d be able to pay. That’s not even touching gas food, or debt. So even with going exempt, it’s been paycheck to paycheck.
I’ve been looking into drive away companies, especially since I’m currently going to school. I’d go OTR but I have one in person class this semester. Next it’s all online.
The flexibility drive away offers is great, so I’ve been looking at a company called TruckMovers, they’re talking:
1. Gross between $80k-$100k but most supposedly make $90k.
2. $1.10-$1.25 for piggy back, and $.70-.$99 cpm for singles.
3. Only cover in between travel expenses if you do piggy back.
4. Their fuel surcharge fluctuates.
5. Pick your own loads.
6. No force dispatch which is 100% common in driveaway.
7. To cover your insurance deductible should something happen, they take $125 out of your pay weekly until you cap out at $3k. When you leave you take that $3k with you.
I’ve checked for recent reviews but couldn’t find any. I believe the most recent review was from back in 2020.
1099 would be beneficial to me for tax purposes, especially since I have my LLC.
I’m trying to figure out if it’s even worth going back to driveaway. Most people talk gross pay, but I’m more concerned with net, if we’re talking numbers.
