I am not a truck driver myself but I deeply appreciate them for the critical role they play in modern society. However, I am appalled by the way people are driving around trucks.
I saw someone flip off a semi doing 55 MPH on the freeway and brake-check them a few days ago. The semi drove onto the shoulder to avoid an accident. I also frequently notice people making sudden lane changes in front of trucks which is very dangerous. 80,000 pounds at 55 MPH does not stop as easily as a normal car.
I noticed that people often buy big SUVs because they are “safer in accidents”, and then they drive recklessly. However, these bad drivers need to realize that an SUV weighs about 6,000 pounds and a fully loaded semi is 80,000 pounds. I always give trucks their space for this reason.
