This might be lengthy. I obtained my CDL license back in June. I did a contract with a mega company as this was the only way I could afford this license. They pay for my school, I work for them for a year, whatever whatever. So I graduate from school, in June, eager to start working. I put my notice in at my civilian job with glee. I’m told I have to wait for a mentor. Sounds good enough. Makes sense. It is now September 20th and I still haven’t started. So 3 months pushing 4. I was “assigned” a mentor on 9/1. He called me. Texted me. Told me he’ll get back to me with a pickup date. Then goes ghost. Doesn’t return my calls. Doesn’t answer my texts. Turns out, when he was assigned to me, he was scheduled for home time. So he went home. And I was never told this until today when I practically had to beg for that information. So now I have to wait yet again for a mentor. I haven’t even pissed in the direction of a truck. I call this company every week asking for updates, begging these people to let me start. Their best excuse is “we’re short on mentors” They’re paying me 300 dollars a week while I wait. This has not covered my bills. I’m on the verge of being evicted. I’ve applied other places but they all want experience or require you to know manual. (I have a manual restriction). I’m burnt. I’m tired. Severely stressed. Feel like a failure. Like this is somehow my fault for wanting to work. I’ve been doing instacart to get by and I feel ridiculous having a CDL license but doing instacart. So I think I’m giving this up. My current job doesn’t want me. No other job wants me. I feel like I completely wasted my time trying to better my life and being treated this poorly.
Long story short: been licensed since June. Company who paid for my license isn’t starting me and will barely tell me why. No other company wants me because I’m too new. Getting a CDL has honestly ruined my year. Considering giving up without ever touching a Truck.
