I drive a company Volvo with 450K mi and so far I have been broken down 3 times. I almost always have issues with it since it loves to throw check engines at me. Ive been working for this company since the end of April so its not like the issues I have are infrequent, its also a 2016 model that has had previous drivers. I’ve only driven paccar trucks and volvos before so I don’t have too much of an input on other trucks, though I didn’t like the ergonomics and handling of the 579 I drove during training.
Ever since I first broke down with the volvo, I’ve started noticing fewer and fewer volvo fleet trucks. Usually when I see them, they are older models like mine. I almost never see newer fleet volvos. The most common company fleet trucks I see are the cascadias, which I assume is because they are more reliable, have a better service network, and are more cost efficient.
That then begs the question: are volvos really that bad in terms of reliability that businesses have decided to stop buying them for their fleets? Are freightliners truly better as they are a more common fleet truck?
