I went through CDL school back in May of this year and got my CDL. Right before I got my DOT physical done and seeing as how I’m a little over weight and have hypertension the doc only gave me a med card for a year. I started doing solo OTR and I had no issues while doing it.
Fast forward to August when I switched companies and started team driving. During the hiring process I had to get a new physical because the original doc checked the wrong box and had me listed as intrastate as opposed to interstate like I needed. So I did the new physical and the new doc gave me a three month card. He said I had signs for sleep apnea and so required me to get a sleep study.
Since my insurance didn’t kick in until Nov. 1st, I waited and started doing everything this month medical wise. I got all my requirements done (sleep study, blood pressure release, etc) and just got my study results back today (11/23). For the record my med card expires tomorrow (11/24.)
The results say I need to get an APAP machine and do 14 days with it before my company will let me get a new physical to get back out on the road. That creates some issues for me, but it is what it is.
My main thing is I need to get a machine and I have no idea how to find one that I can afford.
Due to all this medical stuff I’ve been off the truck for a few weeks and now I’m going to be off even longer.
Does anyone have any suggestions of how to find one that can get sent to me and maybe does installment payments?
Or at least one that doesn’t cost $1,500-$2,000 upfront?
Once I’m working again, it won’t be an issue, but I can’t afford that right now.
Also, why do all the places I talk to say they don’t take insurance?
