Am I wrong for refusing a load ?
So Im (27m) new to the trucking world. This is my second month solo.
Last week I was coming off of my 34 and I get a new load . My 34 was over at 2100 . The pick up time for the new load was at 2200 and I would have to basically drive all night to make it to my appointment on time . The problem is I don’t want to drive nights because I have a hard time staying awake and I know I would be a hazard on the road . I usually start my day between 3-5 am , , stopped by 5 , and sleep by 8 . So I refused the load stating the reasons above . They sent me a new load with an appointment time that was much better for me. Fast forward to today I’m currently on my 10 which will be over tonight at 1000. They send me a load set to deliver at 0100 . I would typically be sleeping at this time which means I would probably have to be up around 2300 to get there . So I call and let them know I can’t make that due to fear of being fatigued .
My question is am I being unreasonable for not driving nights ? I don’t want to seem needy to dispatch but I also know my limits and what I’m willing to do . I do like my job but if I have to drive nights this may not be for me and that’s ok .
Any thoughts ?
