Get into work. They tell me I need to deliver one of our trucks to a driver who is broke down on a load. I ask for details, and they tell me his truck 11 mi out, and is derated to 5 mph. I tell them I’m not gonna drive it back, and they tell me I won’t have to. Mechanic would be on the way soon. Ok.
Get there, give driver the truck. Sit in the breakdown truck and wait. The regional manager pulls up(small fleet with like 80 drivers). Tells me I need to get rolling…I inform him it’s derated, and that it’s not safe to drive on 55mph road at 5 mph. He tells me he’s had drivers limp trucks from farther than 10 miles, reminds me that I’m on the clock(paid hourly), and the truck needs to get back now. I was getting uncomfortable with the fleet manager strong arming me, so I just agreed. I get a mile down the road and already have had people honk and swerve to avoid me. Nope.
Pull over. Call dispatch, and tell them to find someone else to tow, fix, or drive it back… because it ain’t gonna be me.
Getting really tired of companies that try to push their drivers to do illegal shit so they can save/make a buck.
