I’ve been driving for about a month already for USXpress otr and I already feel like it wasn’t the best move tbh. Before all of this I really wanted to put my foot in the door in the otr world for reasons like free travel and hella miles etc. But I’m already starting to realize that the miles aren’t as consistent as I thought it would be compared to a dedicated Walmart account or any other dedicated fleet.
Only got one decent check that was barely 1k after putting a little over 2200 miles in, since then only between 500-600ish after running 1300 1400+ miles. And this check I see they split my trip meaning I only got paid less than half the miles which I believe the whole trip was 680????. idk man I’ve done a lot already and I just know you can get more somewhere else. I’ve done a lot of research already on the Walmart dedicated clan and from what I read it’s pretty much far cry better than otr. I’m seeing guys run like 1800 to 2200 miles a week and hitting that $1200 plus range on a consistent level and STILL be home on weekends, that must be very rewarding.
Another one is open spaces at most Walmarts so most of it is just easy straight backs which is a bonus. But idk it just seems that there are more pros and less cons compared to otr trucking. Stop pay is $15 I hear that if you sit longer at the store they pay you extra, you can start your day whenever you want I seen, you can choose to work an extra day if you’d like, you don’t gotta worry about trying to find a parking spot at truck stops and like potentially embarrass yourself in front of others like the list goes on with this gig.
All of that stress gets eliminated once you are dedicated so it all just seems compelling to do imo. Ik people say the grass ain’t always green or however it goes but it seems like it’ll be an easier gig I’m super tempted to pull the trigger on it but I need to see what you guys think, am I just overthinking it way to soon? Should I stick around otr for a bit and see if it all changes?
Something is telling me that this is what it’ll be for a while crammed in a truck driving endless hours, which I don’t mind too much about but I prefer doing runs mainly during the day and ending at night. But anyway I can’t keep worrying already that I won’t make consistent money like I thought I would.
I refuse to do trucking and live paycheck to paycheck somehow knowing that you can make over 120k a year with a decent amount of experience in this industry. I’m not finna bust my ass and put in miles for chump change I just can’t do it! I already lived that life working as a FedEx delivery driver and I pretty much vowed that I wouldn’t put myself through that hellhole again. I need a gig that’ll pretty much guarantee me 1000 or more weekly! Idk, I’m probably just overthinking and judging to much already but Should I just say screw it and jump on dedicated Walmart bandwagon or just suck it up and give this otr hustle a chance?
