This morning, around 10AM, I was driving through the pouring rain in NJTP from the leftover of hurricane Ian, the sky was extremely cloudy, and no sunshine. Because of the torrential, people were driving slower than speed limit, and of course, I do too on the right lane. I was inching closer to the next entry lane, so I precaution myself in case of incoming vehicle. As far as my eyes can see through the horrible downpour, I didn’t see any vehicles, so I didn’t bother to slow down…or so I thought.
Out of nowhere, a wild sedan appears in front of me, about 250ft! The speed of the vehicle is much, much slower than mine & it didn’t even attempt to speed up to catch up to the vehicle in front of them! The vehicle has no lights on and nothing that reflects my headlights as well. Out of pure surprise, I slammed my brake, air horn the crap out of them, and I hit a puddle so hard I hydroplaned a little bit, almost caused my truck to jack knife.
Surprisingly, the sedan sped up, which gives me extra room to accelerate so my truck doesn’t go into jack knife. My heart beat was through the roof, I thought I experienced panic attack. Luckily, after the acceleration, my truck was stable, and I continued driving without issue.
Please, for whoever is reading this, doesn’t matter what kind of vehicle you’re driving, ESPECIALLY BIG RIG, please turn on your lights when it’s raining or snowing! If your own vision is limited due to weather, best chance that other drivers’ vision is limited too. Avoid accidents by helping them know you’re in front of them!
