*probably should have titled that Hydraulic Brake…in retrospect.
School bus driver here in SWMO. Im driving a new IC Cummins 71 passenger school bus. Our district doesn’t use air brakes, but hydraulic. We have a couple Bluebirds with the same setup. In talking with drivers from other districts, it appears as tho air brakes on school busses are slowly disappearing, at least regionally, and being replaced with hydraulic. My bus weight is 29009 pounds.
I asked our resident diesel mechanic about this and he replied with what a pain in the ass it was to maintain air brakes, particularly for a fleet and he was pretty happy with the hydraulic situation.
My question to the Class A community is, are any of you driving semi cabs with hydraulic brakes? Do they exist? Do you see this apparent Class B trend mission-creeping over to Class A? Why or why not? Genuinely curious.
Thanks a lot!
