So I started following this thread and quickly realized how naive and blind me and my husband were about him going OTR and now I’m not sure how we get out of it with minimal damage
We moved back to Louisiana last month and since then he’s been home for less than 36 hours. However, in the month and a half he’s been gone.. western has withheld three different paychecks.
The first was for a greyhound and an Uber to get back driving. Annoying, but fine. Wasn’t predisclosed, DM said he wasnt sure if they’d charge us, and had go jump through hoops to find out why. He only had three small runs on that check.
The next week he started training and should have a good check. They deducted 2k for a tow bill. He called accident hotline the night before and they told to wait overnight for the rain to stop. The next morning he woke up to a tow truck driver telling him don’t worry about it.. I’ll get you out. I guess like 6 different trucks got stuck sliding in the mud.
Rookie, dumb dumb dumb mistake for him to allow it but again no notifying why the check was withheld. He never received any login to see his check stubs. His DM and the guy above him keep telling him for the past month they’ll see what they can do and check the call records with accident hotline.
The same week two different trainees wrecked the truck back to back. One was pretty bad. I didn’t talk to him for 36 hours and I was freaking out. They immediately had him back on the road both times.
He’s been stuck in the northeast doing whatever they give him. There hasn’t been any trainees and his DM is seemingly cool. He’ll set him up with a next run on Friday before he leaves for the weekend. The weekend people usually kick him off that run and give it to someone else and then give the runaround of we’ll get with the planners so he’s sat there for an extra 24 hours multiple weekends.
This last week his check never came in again for the 3rd time.
The only thing I can think of is he had to get tires replaced but he says he asked over and over if this was going to be taken out of his check. They said tires are covered.
His DM has been out for three weekdays now. Dispatch gave the guy over the DM his email today. No one is answering at payroll or the guy that’s over his DM. They’re all about to go home for the day.
Our account is in the negative. I don’t know how we’re gonna feed the kids this week as my credit cards are maxed. They didn’t take the first two checks being deducted very seriously. I know they don’t work for free.
In two weeks, my husband is going back into private contracting for a more stable income. And now I’ve read the many stories about how western treats people trying to leave
Idk what we should do. We cannot afford him working for free for another two weeks and don’t want to be charged even more money if he quits.
I asked if he wanted to borrow some of my crazy to demand answers and at worst he’d get fired.
I’m sure the trainees that wrecked the trucks got paid.
This is just beyond me.
So what would yall do?
Please be kind. We’re young and dumb and even I was considering getting a CDL before this shitshow, but I’m really just in mama bear mode
