Hey everyone. I’ve been a local driver for five years. I started at a beverage delivery company right out of trucking school. I made $62k my last year delivering beer. Delivering beer was easy hours, less than 40 a week. However beverage delivery will kill your body. The typical stack weights 300+ pounds and you’re taking it down and up steps. You’re also dealing with every account that sells alcohol so I always had over 20 stops a day. This is what you can expect fresh out of school.
What I want all the new guys to know is make connections. When you get out of school you will either be recruited by some fast talker that visited your school or you’re on google and indeed reading job postings. Just know that fast talker and those job posting are total BS.
The only local jobs worth anything are referral only. You need to talk to other drivers. You need to make friends. I went from beer to working for a large fast food food service company. We service one account. Our driver turn over is in the single digits. Drivers only leave to retire or start their own business. I will clear $120k this year. The job is insanely easy. I only got this job because I made friends and asked questions with any driver I saw.
The truly good local jobs are not posted. Get your butt out there and make connections!
