In 2015, I was driving for Crete.
They had put me in this International that had a recall on the heater.
A woman I went through orientation with, passed away in the truck due to this recall issue, and the drivers heard about her death through the grapevine, not from corporate.
I was stuck at Iowa 80 on a 34-hour reset. It was negative 11 degrees, and I had no heat.
This girl in dispatch, “Jessica,” hung up on me because I said “I have no fucking heat, you bitch.”
I called back and they told me “you must make delivery” to Chicago.
Because I was so new, I made delivery to Chicago, where it was a little warmer at about zero degrees, but I was still having heater issues.
I asked to be routed to a shop for heater repair.
They ignored my request and put me under a load to Kansas City, and THEN let me go to a shop in Kansas City after I made delivery.
I remembered this, and left that company as soon as I was able to.
Just remember that dispatch doesn’t actually care about your life or your comfort. Dispatch will absolutely send you out to die.
If you’re in this situation, pack your bag, call a taxi or an Uber, and get yourself to a hotel room.
The company might put some shit on your DAC. But you can fight it later.
Don’t allow your trucking company to kill you.
