North of White River Junction, Vermont, US 91, a two-laner, gets hilly as it crosses one ridge line after another. After St. Johnsbury the traffic drops off considerably. The speed limit’s 65, but my car lacks a good OD gear. If traffic’s light and I won’t be in the way, I often do 55-60 in the right line.
Frequently I’ll be overtaken by a truck whose driver surely wants to maintain his momentum on the hills. Rather than make him wrestle his rig around me, if there’s no one in the left lane, I’ll signal, move left, let him pass me on the right, and then return to the right lane after he passes.
So am I being a good citizen, or are drivers muttering “WTF is that asshole doing?’
