OK, so I’m pretty serious about trip planning. I actually got kicked off my first trainers truck because I refused to move the truck without at least doing a preplan of some sort.
I got my first load yesterday. High Point NC to Miami, FL. I spent 2 hours planning it out using Trucker Path. Miami is a dead zone parking-wise so I made my way to Palm City and started my day there. Dropped off in Miami and made my way over to Doral to pick up a return load headed for Decatur. Had 3:45 on my clock so no worries I thought I should be back in Palm City with a couple hours to spare.
Well the weather got nautical and I only averaged 35 mph most of the way up the turnpike. Any place with parking was beyond full. I saw a bunch of guys parked on the shoulder but I wasn’t about to go that route.
When traffic and the weather cleared up I realized I was going to be 10-15 mins behind. I pulled over and clicked on the PC option but the Enter button was grayed out and I couldn’t change my status. Rather than just post up there on the shoulder I continued on to the safety of the rest area but ended up 12 minutes over my 14-hour clock.
Would this have fallen under adverse conditions and if so how do I even log that?
I know I fucked up. How screwed am I? How should I approach it with my driver manager? I assume they’ll see this on their computer and be calling me in the morning.
